Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and vocalist whose dramatic variety earned her acclaim in a variety of genres from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson was born in New York City, and was raised by an architect father and producer mother. Her twin brother Hunter were one of the youngest four siblings. From a young age she discovered an aptitude for acting and began auditioning commercials when she was 7. To enhance her talents, she enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan followed by at the Professional Children's School. She made her debut as an actor in the film North (1994) when she was the age of nine. When she was eight years old, she starred alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson made her debut as a character in Just Cause, but she gained recognition when she appeared in Manny & Lo, a film about orphaned siblings who escape. In the following film, she won the praise of critics for playing one of the teens who been injured and left her disfigured in The Horse Whisperer (1998). Her popularity grew when she appeared in Ghost World (2001) as an outcast with a sly attitude Rebecca. She was as a youngster drawn to acting. Smith's parents were supportive of her having her first performance when she was six. Smith was in a television commercial for Dannon yogurt. Similar to many actors starting out she decided to hone her skills in the field of theatre. She worked on a variety of projects throughout the USA as she made her debut on stage. She was educated in the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
